Washington Secures Federal Grant for Electric Hydrofoil Ferry Design
Kitsap Transit and Washington Maritime Blue partners win federal grant to design high-speed passenger ferry powered by battery-electric, low-emission technology. The U.S. Federal Transit Administration has picked a novel fast-ferry experiment in Washington State as one of 25 awardees in its Accelerating Innovate Mobility initiative, providing $372,000 in design funding to a consortium led by Washington Maritime Blue.
Ingenity delivers 1st Nautique electric boats, onshore charging station
Ingenity’s 1st Nautique electric boats – Super Air Nautique GS22E models – have been delivered to customers in the United States and in Europe. The company has also installed an onshore automotive style “EB Charger” (electric boat charger) on Lake Tahoe in California.

In addition, Ingenity has installed an innovative automotive style “EB” (electric boat) charger on Lake Tahoe.

The company already supplies their APM line of electric motors and drive trains to automotive OEMs, specialist supercar manufacturers and electric buses, and sees a lot of opportunity in marine electrification.
Canada approves 1st lithium-ion commercial passenger boat
A lithium-ion commercial passenger boat that can take up to 25 guests out deep sea fishing in the waters around Halifax, Nova Scotia, is the first such boat to gain safety approval from Canada’s Marine Technical Review Board.

Yamaha starts trials on twin electric boat motor unit
The twin electric boat motor unit is integrated with a steering control system – HARMO – and trials begin August 7 on the Otaru Canal tourist attraction in Hokkaido, Japan. Yamaha calls HARMO its “next-generation control system platform” which includes electric rim motors, a remote-control box and a joystick ‘for more intuitive operation’. The company is hoping to offer HARMO as a total package for people, especially in Europe, looking into electric boats for use on canals.

Two new models of electric jet-skis from Montreal’s Taiga Motors are the first electric watercraft that are close to the pricing of fossil fuel models. The Orca Sport and Orca Performance follow on the sold-out success of the ‘Founder’s Model’ Orca electric PWC (Personal Water Craft) launched last year.
