USCG issues interim rule on fire safety of small passenger vessels

In response to the deadly Conception dive boat fire, the U.S. Coast Guard is issuing an interim rule as the first step to implementing statutorily mandated requirements for fire safety on certain covered small passenger vessels. This interim rule adds additional fire safety requirements for small passenger vessels, including fire detection and suppression systems, avenues of escape, egress drills, crew firefighting training, watchmen monitoring devices, and the handling of flammable items such as rechargeable batteries.

Scania DI13 Diesel

Scania might not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of marine diesels. But that could well change thanks to a powerful, lightweight and efficient new model showcased in a twin-inboard installation powering the new 46-foot Billfish from Viking Yacht Company. Swedish-based Scania—one of the world’s leading manufacturers of engines for trucks, buses, industrial applications and boats—introduced the DI13 marine diesel to North America earlier this year. That prompted one of the United States distributors for Scania North America, Mack Boring & Parts Co., to put a pair of the 900 hp versions of the DI13 in its new Viking 46BF company boat. Mack Boring christened it Mack 900.

Brunswick Acquires SemahTronix

Brunswick Corp. said in a statement that it acquired SemahTronix, a global supplier of wiring harnesses and cable assemblies for the marine, mobile and defense industries. Financial terms were not disclosed. The company will be part of Brunswick’s Advanced Systems Group of parts-and-accessory brands, which include batteries, power management, digital control and monitoring, and networked systems and devices.

OXE Marine AB (publ) carries out a directed share issue of MSEK 22.75

The board of directors of OXE Marine AB (publ) (“OXE Marine” or the “Company”) has today, as authorized by the annual general meeting on 16 April 2021, resolved to increase the Company’s share capital by way of a directed issue of 10,435,777 shares to a smaller group of existing investors, including industrial investor Koenigsegg. The shares are issued at a subscription price of SEK 2.18 per share, which corresponds to the volume weighted average price for the Company’s share on Nasdaq First North Growth Market during the period from 3 September 2021 to 16 September 2021, and will raise MSEK 22.75 for the Company.

New COO at Cox Marine

Cox Marine, the UK diesel outboard manufacturer, has named Gavin Wesson as the group’s new chief operating officer. Wesson will be tasked with building a world-class operations and supply chain capability, positioning the business for its future and will be responsible for Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing and Logistics.

US electronics manufacturer to produce boats, RVs

US Lighting Group (USLG), an automotive electronics and commercial LED lighting company based in Ohio, is coming off a record year in 2020 and is using that success to enter into the marine and recreational vehicle markets – not as suppliers of components, but manufacturers of finished products.

Emissions Regulations Postponed

The International Maritime Organization’s Marine Environment Protection Committee voted to delay enforcement of IMO Tier III engine emission regulations for vessels larger than 78 feet, a move the Coast Guard said it would support. The NOx Tier III emission limits for marine engines has been around since 2016, but the International Council of Marine Industry Associations was granted a five-year extension for recreational vessels that was set to expire this year.
